Feature: CityAM Debate: Should Companies Publish Salaries On Job Adverts?

PR

I recently contributed to City AM on a debate that divides businesses: should companies post salaries on job adverts?

My stance? Yes—100%. Pay transparency isn’t just about fairness—it’s about efficiency, trust, and employer brand.

Here’s why:
Saves time – No more interview rounds ending in mismatched salary expectations.
Levels the playing field – Standardised job titles don’t exist, but salaries help benchmark seniority.
Strengthens employer reputation – Candidates talk. A great hiring experience (or a bad one) doesn’t stay private.

Avoiding salary disclosure doesn’t make compensation less important—it just makes it more frustrating. By being upfront, companies attract better-fit candidates, streamline hiring, and build long-term trust.
